From Clay to Bronze

9 - The Sculpture is Set on a Granite Base then Given a Patina

Patina is coloration of the metal with different acids. Depending on the acid used, the process will be cold or hot using the propane torch. Coloration can require several days for a sculpture of many hues. For instance, six days were needed for Thank You and Welcome.

The sculpture is then lacquered in order to fix or stop its oxidation. A protective felt is added to its base. Finally, two more weeks will be required for performing the inevitable minor touches.
